Paced by women's overall winner senior Kayla Schmidt, the Canisius men's and women's cross country teams swept in the Little Three Championships Friday at Beaver Island in Grand Island, N.Y.

In the annual race that pits the Golden Griffins against regional rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure, junior Kyle Urban crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 15:52.5, placing just behind Braden York of Niagara (15.27.2) and Aidan Scattergood of St. Bonaventure (15:32.8) 

Canisius had four more runners place within the top 10 spots in the men's race. Freshman Fenway Breckls (16:03.8) took sixth while freshman Nathaniel Fisher (16:08.8), junior Brody Jones (16:09.1), and graduate student Kevin Board (16:09.3) claimed spots 7-9, respectively.

The Canisius men claimed its 18th straight Little Three men's crown as it posted a team score of 33 points, three points behind of St. Bonaventure (36) and 30 point in front of Niagara (63).

On the women's side, Canisius grabbed the top two places, led by Schmidt, who won the women's 5K with a time of 18:30.1 She was followed by freshman Ella Krumpek (18:31.7), who claimed second in her collegiate debut. Freshman Natalie Latchaw (19:10.6) placed sixth, while junior Jacqueline Appenheimer (19:18.5) and senior Taylor Heschke (19:19.9) rounded out the top 10 for the Griffs.

As a team, Canisius finished with a team total of 32 points, 14 in front of St. Bonaventure (46) and 19 ahead of Niagara (51) as it captured its 18th Little Three women's team title in the last 20 championships.
