Women’s Basketball Announces 2024-25 MAAC Schedule

In conjunction with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the Canisius women's basketball team announced its 2024-25 MAAC schedule today (July 24).

With the addition of two new schools to the conference, Merrimack and Sacred Heart, the 2024-25 MAAC schedule will be unbalanced. Each team in the league will play eight conference opponents two times (one at home, one on the road) and four other conference rivals one time, each. Per MAAC scheduling policy, each school is guaranteed to play its closest geographic opponent, but the rest of the opponents that a school plays only one time were chosen at random. For this season, Canisius will not host Manhattan or Mount St. Mary's and the Griffs are not scheduled to play road games at Fairfield or at Quinnipiac.

The Golden Griffins open MAAC play at league newcomer Merrimack Dec. 19 and then play at Siena on Dec. 21. After the New Year holiday break, Canisius returns to conference action on Jan. 4 with a home game against Sacred Heart. The month of January sees the Griffs play five of their eight league games on the road, starting at Rider (Jan. 9) and at Saint Peter's (Jan. 11). After hosting Iona (Jan. 16) and defending MAAC champion Fairfield (Jan. 18), the Blue and Gold wrap up the first month of the 2025 calendar year with road games at Sacred Heart (Jan. 23), at Marist (Jan. 25) and at long-time rival Niagara (Jan. 30).

The month of February starts with three-straight league games at home for the Griffs, as the team plays host to Quinnipiac (Feb. 6) and Merrimack (Feb. 8). The second installment of the annual Battle of the Bridge series against Niagara takes place Feb. 11, when the Purple Eagles travel south on I-190 for the 106th meeting in series history.

After a road game at Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 15), the Griffs open a stretch where the team plays four of its final six MAAC regular season contests at home, beginning Feb. 20 when the team hosts Marist. After playing home against Siena (Feb. 22), the Griffs' final two road games of the schedule will be at Manhattan (Feb. 27) and at Iona (March 1), before the squad returns home for league games against Rider (March 6) and Saint Peter's (March 8) on the last weekend of the 2024-25 season.

The 2025 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship tournament once again returns to Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. This year's tournament will be held from March 11-15, with the event's championship team earning the conference's automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.

First-year head coach Tiffany Swoffard also announced that the team's 2024-25 home opener will be against long-time rival St. Bonaventure on Nov. 19. That game between the Griffs and the Bonnies will be the 56th in series history, making St. Bonaventure the most-played non-league rival in Canisius' 50-year program history. The full 2024-25 women's basketball schedule, including non-conference games and game times, will be announced when information is available.
