Alonso Easterling Commits to Men’s Basketball Roster

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today (May 17) that Alonso Easterling has committed to join the Golden Griffin men's basketball program for the 2024-25 season.

A native of Fayetteville, N.C., Easterling played the 2023-24 season at Peninsula Catholic High School in Newport News, Va. There, in his senior year, the 6-foot-11, 200-pound forward led the Knights with his 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game to go along with his 4.0 points and 1.7 assists per contest. Easterling helped Peninsula Catholic to a 24-10 record last season, which resulted in the team being ranked No. 24 in the Virginia State High School Basketball final 2023-24 rankings, according to MaxPreps.

Having been a part of the NBA Without Borders program, Easterling has gained international experience as the Argentinian representative at the 2023 NBA Academy Games, which were played in Atlanta last summer. This summer, Easterling will be on the Argentina roster for the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup scheduled to be played June 3-9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"Alonso is a player who has a great deal of international experience and he has a unique skill set for a 6-foot-11 player," Christian said. "We feel that his skill set fits well really within our system. We are excited about his upside, and we are very excited about his attitude toward the game of basketball and school."

Easterling is the eighth player Christian has signed to the Griffs' roster for the 2024-25 season after he took over the program on April 8. Easterling will start his playing career at Canisius with four years of college eligibility.
