Dylan Godfrey and William Scott Jr. Join Men’s Basketball Program

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today (May 10) that Dylan Godfrey and William Scott Jr. will join the Golden Griffin men's basketball roster for the 2024-25 season.

Godfrey played the 2023-24 season at East Los Angeles College and Scott Jr., spent the 2023-24 campaign as a member of the Triton College men's basketball program, which went 34-3 and advanced to the 2024 NJCAA Division I National Championship game. Both players have three years of eligibility remaining.

Godfrey started all 29 games he appeared in last season at East Los Angeles College, a school that gained national recognition as part of the Netflix series, "Last Chance U – Basketball". A 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward, Godfrey ranked third on the team with his 11.2 points per game scoring average, while helping the Huskies to 21-9 overall record and a 7-3 mark in league play. He scored in double-figures 19 times, highlighted by his season-high 20-point performance against Mount San Antonio Feb. 14. Godfrey closed out the season by shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point land, with 24 of his 132 makes from the field coming from behind the arc. Additionally, he grabbed 4.6 rebounds per contest while averaging 18.8 minutes per game. Before joining the East Los Angeles College roster, the Newport Beach, Calif., native played his scholastic basketball at Pacifica Christian/Orange County

"Dylan is a versatile forward who is a prolific shooter and possesses great overall offensive skills that will have a great impact on our team," Christian said.  "His work ethic and his passion to improve fit the mentality within our program perfectly."

Scott Jr., played in 37 games and made four starts for Triton College, located in River Grove, Ill. A native of Akron, Ohio, Scott Jr., was good for 7.0 points, 2.2 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for the Trojans in 2023-24, to go with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He ended the season by shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from 3-point land, while ranking fourth on the team in scoring average. Scott Jr., made 32 3-pointers as well, which ranked fifth on the team. He was good for double-figures in the scoring column nine times last season and he dished out multiple assists on 23 occasions.

Prior to joining the Triton program, Scott Jr., led Akron Archbishop Hoban High School to the 2023 OHSSA Division I state championship, the school's first state title since 1989. In that state title game, he was good for 13 points and eight rebounds.

"William is a player who has won a state title at Akron Hoban and played in the JUCO national championship game in his time at Triton," Christian said. "His versatility on the perimeter will be a great value to our program and he is a good teammate. We are excited to add a young man who has played in highly successful programs to our roster."

Godfrey and Scott are the third and fourth players to commit to Canisius since Christian took over as the Griffs' head coach on April 8. Last week, Canisius announced that forward Jasman Singha and Tyson Oghene will join the program as transfers for the 2024-25 campaign.
