Javante Edwards Commits to Men's Basketball Program

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today (Nov. 27) that Javante Edwards, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard from Milwaukee, Wisc., has committed to join the Golden Griffin men's basketball program for the 2025-26 season.

Edwards, a three-time Milwaukee City Conference (MCC) all-league selection, is currently in his senior year at Carmen Northwest High School. In his junior season at Carmen NW, he averaged a career-best 20.1 points to go along with 4.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game en route to earning MCC Gold Division First Team honors. In 17 varsity games as a sophomore (2022-23), Edwards was good for 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 4.2 steals per contest before being named to the MCC Gold Division Second Team.

In his scholastic career, Edwards is averaging 16.0 points and 4.7 boards per game to go along with 3.8 assists and 3.2 steals per outing. On the club circuit, he plays for Kevon Looney Power 5 AAU program, based out of Wisconsin.

"We are excited to add a player of Javante's caliber to our program," Christian said. "He takes pride in playing the game at both ends of the floor. He has a proven ability to score the basketball and he is an accomplished defensive player as well. That mindset will help him fit into our program from day one."

Canisius will close out the season's first month later today when the Griffs play at Robert Morris. Game time is set for 4 p.m. The Griffs will return to action Dec. 6, when the team opens a three-game homestand at the Koessler Athletic Center when MAAC-newcomer Merrimack comes to town. That contest will tipoff at 7 p.m.
