Donner and Broad Earn All-MAAC Honors as Golf Completes MAAC Championship

Canisius senior Mike Donner and junior Shane Broad each earned All-MAAC honors on Sunday after the pair of Golden Griffin golfers closed out the 2022 MAAC Golf Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., tied for fifth place with three-round scores of 219.

The fifth-place effort for both Donner and Broad stands as the best conference championship finish for a Canisius golfer since former Griff David Hanes placed third in 2017. The duo also became just the third and fourth Canisius golfers since 2013 to place in the top-five at the MAAC Golf Championship, joining Hanes (2017) and former Griff Joe Vogl (2013), who also placed fifth at the conference's championship event.

As a team, Canisius posted a team score of 294 on Sunday. That allowed the Blue and Gold to finish the three-day tournament in sixth place with 895 strokes, five strokes behind fifth-place Monmouth.

Donner closed out the final round with a one-under par score of 71 on Sunday to give him a three-round total of 219, which stands as his new career-low for a 54-hole tournament. Donner was even-par through 15 holes before he birdied the par-4 16th hole at Disney's Magnolia Course, allowing him to finish under par for the second time this season. The top-five finish for the Buffalo native also serves as his second career top-five effort.

Broad moved 16 places up the leaderboard on Sunday with his season-low score of 69, which was three-under par. After making the turn at even-par, Broad posted three birdies on the back nine for his second career round under 70. The tournament score of 219 matches his career-low for a 54-hole event. The Alden, N.Y., native also posted a three-round score of 219 at the Bucknell Invitational last fall.

Freshman Ben Ramold finished the MAAC Championship tied for 20th overall with his tournament score of 224. He shot a three-over par score with a 75 on Sunday. Fellow freshman Ryan Edholm shot 79 on Sunday, highlighted by his eagle-3 on the par-5 10th hole. That eagle was one of five for the entire tournament.

Rider won the MAAC Golf Team Championship on Sunday, as the Broncs moved up two spots on the leaderboard with a team score of 287 to finish the tournament with a team score of 873. Siena finished second with a team score of 879, while Fairfield and Iona tied for third at 880. Monmouth was fifth at 890, followed by Canisius (895) and Saint Peter's (907). Niagara placed eighth with a team score of 919, while Manhattan finished in ninth place after posting a team score of 939.

Rider's Austin Devereux won the individual MAAC Championship on Sunday with his third-round score of 69, which allowed him to finish with a three-round tally of 213. That was one stroke better than his teammate, Louis Giovi, who shot a 66 on Sunday to finish the tournament with a score of 214.
