GOLF RETURNS TO FLORIDA FOR THE 2022 MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP

• The Canisius golf team heads south to take part in the 2022 MAAC Men's Golf Championship, which tees off Friday morning.
• The Golden Griffins have placed fifth in this event in each of the last three tournaments (2018, 2019 and 2021). The 2020 MAAC Golf Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Canisius' best team finish at the MAAC Golf Championship came in 1997, when the Blue and Gold placed third. In 2013, Canisius finished fourth in the team event, which is the best team finish for the program since that effort in 1997.
• The championship team at this year's MAAC Golf Championship earns the league's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
• Additionally, the individual champion at this event not only earns a bid into the 2022 NCAA Golf Championship, but also earns the McLeod Trophy as the league's top golfer.

• This year marks the seventh time since 2015 where the league's championship tournament has been played at the Magnolia Course at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Prior to moving to the Magnolia Course in 2015, the tournament made a two-year stop at Disney's Palm Course.

HOW THE GRIFFS HAVE FARED IN FLORIDA
• Only two active members of the Canisius golf program have played in a previous MAAC Golf Championship.
• Senior Mike Donner will be playing in his third career MAAC Championship. In his first career MAAC Championship appearance (2019), he tied for 13th in the field with his tournament score of 228.
• Donner tied for 17th in the weather-shortened event last year. Donner posted back-to-back rounds of 75 and was one-under through nine holes in 2021 before the tournament was called off due to rain.
• Junior Shane Broad made his first career MAAC Championship appearance in 2021. He finished in 33rd place, highlighted by his one-over par round of 73 on day two of the tournament.
