Donner Leads the Way for Golf at Hartford Event

Canisius senior Mike Donner shot a three-over par 73 and is tied for eighth after the first round of the Hartford Wintonbury Hills Invitational, which was played at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, Conn., Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Golden Griffins posted a team score of 309, which sits the team in sixth place after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament. Fairfield leads the team portion of the event after the Stags carded a team score of 281, eight strokes better than second-place Rhode Island.

Donner was one of eight golfers in the field to record a 73 on the day. Canisius freshman Ben Ramold is tied for 30th after he carded a 78, and junior Shane Broad is tied for 33rd with his opening-round score of 79. Joining Broad in the three-way tied for 33rd is teammate Ryan Edholm, who also shot 79 on the day.

Fairfield's Jason Salameno leads the tournament after he carded a three-under score of 67. Rhode Island's Jordan Brajcich fired a two-under par score of 68.

The second and final round of the Hartford Wintonbury Hills Invitational is set to tee-off Sunday morning.
