Outdoor Track Completes Day One of Bison Outdoor Classic

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday. The Golden Griffins put forth a strong performance and will return for day two on Saturday.

In the women's 1500-meter unseeded, sophomore Jules Jones ran a career-best time of 4:54.97. In the men's 1500 unseeded, the Griffs were well-represented by grad student Turner Dirrigl and senior Richard Moore. Dirrigl crossed the finish line in 4:04.90, while Moore posted a time of 4:06.85.

Junior Andrew Perreault ran in the men's 1500-meter invitational, recording a time of 3:54.29.

Senior Libby Benzer, juniors Marissa Silba and Olivia Moran and freshman Taylor Heschke represented Canisius in the women's 5000-meter invitational. Benzer finished with a mark of 17:13.98, which was good for 14th place overall, while Silba and Moran logged times of 17:47.24 and 18:19.66, respectively. All three runners set personal-best times and Benzer and Silba secured spots on the all-time list. Benzer now ranks second all-time in the women's 5000, while Silba secured the number five spot. Heschke made her collegiate debut in the event, finishing in 19:10.79.

Junior Tom Appenheimer raced in the 10000-meter invitational, posting a time of 30:10.52 to secure a 16th place finish for the Griffs.

The Bison Outdoor Classic continues Saturday morning with the track events scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. from Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium.
