FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
The Canisius women's basketball team closes its three-game, five-day road trip with a stop to Quinnipiac on Monday in Hamden, Conn. Tipoff between the Golden Griffins and Bobcats is scheduled for 1 p.m.

2. Last Time Out
An 11-0 run in overtime propelled Fairfield to a 63-54 victory over Canisius in MAAC women's basketball action Saturday at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.

Junior Shaunae Brown scored a game-high 15 points for Canisius. Freshman Athina Lexa had eight points, while graduate student Ella Väätänen and freshmen Lydia Gattozzi and Rhay Porter all added six points each.

Fairfield's Callie Cavanaugh and Sam Lewis scored 14 points, while Sydney Lowery and Andrea Hernangómez chipped in 10 points apiece. Rachel Hakes added eight points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Stags.

3. Series History
Canisius vies for its first victory over Quinnipiac Monday in the 18th meeting between the two programs, all of which have come since the Bobcats joined the MAAC before the 2013-14 season.

Quinnipiac defeated Canisius earlier this year on Jan. 27, 62-53, in Buffalo at the Koessler Athletic Center. Sophomore Dani Haskell scored a team-high 16 points in the defeat, while freshman Cheyenne Stubbs posted nine points, seven rebounds and eight steals.

The last three contests in the series between Canisius and Quinnipiac have been decided by nine points or less.

4. Stealing the Show
Freshman guard Cheyenne Stubbs has recorded 13 steals in her last four games.

Stubbs had an eight-steal game in the last meeting against Quinnipiac (Jan. 27) before recording four — two of which came in the final eight seconds — against Siena on Jan. 29.

With her eight steals against Quinnipiac, Stubbs is one of four Division I freshmen with an eight-steal game this year. Her eight steals were the most by a Canisius player since Brittané Russell had nine against Colgate on Nov. 12, 2007.

Along with her eight steals against Quinnipiac, Stubbs added nine points and seven rebounds, becoming the third Division I player with 9+ points, 7+ rebounds and 8+ steals in a game this season, joining Syracuse's Teisha Hyman (27 points, 8 rebounds, 11 steals) and Norfolk State's Camille Downs (20 points, 8 rebounds, 10 steals).

Stubbs became the first Golden Griffin with four-plus steals in back-to-back games since Anna Sweny had four steals in consecutive games in Feb. 2018.

5. Crashing the Boards
Graduate student Ella Väätänen and freshman Rhay Porter both recorded nine rebounds in Saturday's overtime loss to Fairfield.

Väätänen and Porter became the first Canisius tandem with nine-plus rebounds in the same game since A.J. Timbers (11) and Danielle Sanderlin (9) against Siena on March 10, 2020, at the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships.
