Perreault, Van Buren Tabbed Student-Athletes of the Month for January

Men's cross country/track junior Andrew Perreault and women's swimming and diving junior Grace Van Buren have been named the Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for January.

Andrew Perreault – Men's Cross Country/Track
Perreault has put together an impressive junior season that started with a trio of top-25 finishes during the cross country season, highlighted by a fourth-place result in the Little Three Championship in September. The Lewiston, N.Y., native recently posted a first-place finish in the one-mile race at the Houghton Highlander Invitational with a time of 4:23.25, while also running a leg of the 4x800 relay that placed first at the event. A computer science major, Perreault is a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection, having earned the honor twice for cross country and once for outdoor track.

Grace Van Buren – Women's Swimming and Diving
Van Buren has enjoyed a stellar season in the pool for the Griffs this year, compiling a total of nine first-place finishes during the regular season. Her time of 24.53 in the 50 free sprint race at Niagara on Jan. 22 puts her among the top 15 times in the MAAC this season. Last spring, the Buffalo native was part of the 200-free relay that claimed first place in the 2021 MAAC Spring Invitational. A finance major at the College, Van Buren was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team last spring.

The Canisius athletic department saw 19 of its 20 varsity programs post a team grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2021 fall session. Seventeen teams posted a team GPA of 3.25 or higher, while the school's 381 student-athletes combined to post a department grade point average of 3.44 for the term

The most recent semester saw 40 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 40 student-athletes were part of a group of 309 Canisius student-athletes to record a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, representing 81.0 percent of the College's student-athlete population.
