Golf Closes Out Play at Matthews Auto Collegiate

Canisius senior Shane Broad shot a one-over 73 to tie for 12th in the field and the Golden Griffins recorded a team score of 312 to finish in eighth place on the second and final day of the 2022 Matthews Auto Collegiate at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.

Broad's 73 on Monday, which was highlighted by an eagle-3 on the par-five 18th hole, allowed him to finish the 36-hole event with a two-round score of 146, which was two-over par. The score of 146 is his lowest score in a 36-hole tournament this season, and it marks the sixth time in his career where he's earned a top-20 finish in a tournament. Sophomore Joey Maher shot 77 on Monday for a tournament score of 154, his career-low for a 36-hole event. He tied for 33rd in the field along with Monmouth's Colin McCullagh.

Lehigh won the 2022 Matthews Auto Collegiate team title with a team score of 575, which was six strokes better than second-place La Salle. La Salle's Karsen Rush fired a six-under 66 on Monday to win individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 139.

The Griffs will close out the 2022 fall campaign Oct. 9-11 when the team travels to play in the 54-hole Bucknell Fall Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
