FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
Canisius concludes its five-game homestand on Saturday when the Griffs welcome Fairfield to the Koessler Athletic Center. Tipoff between the Stags and Golden Griffins is slated for 1 p.m.

2. Porter Strong on the Glass
Freshman forward Rhay Porter secured a season-high 15 rebounds in 18:05 of game action in the Griffs' 59-51 loss to Rider on Thursday.

Porter's rebounding total was the most by a Canisius first-year player since Maggie Guidry had 16 against Fairfield on Feb. 17, 1997.

The Scotia, N.Y., native became just the second Division I player to log 15 rebounds in under 20 minutes of action this season, joining Lola Pendande. She had 15 rebounds in 19:10 for Miami (Fla.) against Robert Morris in a non-league contest on Dec. 12.

The 15-rebound performance by Porter was the first time a Canisius player recorded at least 15 rebounds in a contest since Danielle Sanderlin also hauled in 15 boards against Stetson on Dec. 19, 2019.

3. Series History
Saturday will mark the 67th all-time meeting between the two MAAC Jesuit institutions. Fairfield has a 41-25 advantage in the series and the Stags have won 17 of the last 21, dating back to the 2010-11 season.

Canisius is 13-18 all-time on its home floor against Fairfield and has won three of the last four against the Stags at the Koessler Athletic Center.

4. Reaching the Century Mark
Should Ella Väätänen play in Saturday's contest, the graduate student would be playing in her 100th career game. Väätänen played 81 games at LIU in three seasons before transferring to Canisius. Over the last two seasons, she has played in 18 contests for the Blue and Gold.

5. Block Party!
Väätänen and Porter have been co-hosts of a Canisius block party as of late, recording a block in eight and six games, respectively.

Väätänen's eight-game block streak is the longest of her collegiate career and she is the first Canisius player to register an eight-game block streak since Whitney Ellenor in 2009-10.

Porter is the seventh player (eighth occurrence) in the last 20 seasons to record a six-game block streak.
