Metro Conference Announces 2026-27 Women’s Basketball League Schedule

2026-27 SCHEDULE  |  BUY/RENEW SEASON TICKETS
The Canisius women's basketball team will play its first Metro Conference game of the 2026-27 season on Dec. 19, when the Golden Griffins face Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J., the conference office announced Monday.

For the third-straight year, the Metro Conference schedule will be unbalanced. Each school in the 13-team league will play eight opponents twice (one home, one on the road) and four other conference rivals once each. Per the Metro scheduling policy, each school is guaranteed to play its closest geographic opponent two times, but the remaining opponents a school plays only once are chosen at random. For the 2026-27 season, Canisius will not host Iona or Quinnipiac, and the Griffs are not scheduled to play road games at Manhattan or Siena.
 
Season tickets for the combined home men's and women's basketball schedule are on sale now through the Canisius Ticket Office by CLICKING HERE. Fans can also purchase their season ticket plans, which cost $240 for reserved and $140 for general admission, by calling the ticket office during normal business hours at (716) 888-TIXX.
 
After closing out the non-league schedule at Wright State on Dec. 15, the Griffs will play their first official game under the Metro Conference brand on Dec. 19, at Rider. The conference opener against the Broncs will mark the second time in the last five years where the Blue and Gold has opened the league slate against Rider. Canisius will close out the 2026 calendar year with a league road game at Mount St. Mary's on Dec. 21.
 
After the conclusion of the Christmas holiday break, Canisius will open the 2027 calendar year with a home game against Marist on Jan. 1. That game against the Red Foxes will be the Griffs' fourth contest on New Year's Day, with two of the previous three games on Jan. 1 coming in the last five seasons. That game against Marist will also be the first of 10 games for the Blue and Gold in the month of January. Canisius will close out the first weekend of the 2027 calendar year at home on Jan. 3 when the team hosts Sacred Heart. That match-up with the Pioneers will be the Griffs' only Sunday conference game of the season.
 
Following a weekend road trip to Saint Peter's (Jan. 7) and Iona (Jan. 9), Canisius will return home Jan. 16 to start a stretch where the Blue and Gold will play four of its next five games at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs will host Merrimack (Jan. 16) and Fairfield (Jan. 18) before traveling to play at Sacred Heart (Jan. 21). On Jan. 23, Canisius will renew its long-time rivalry with Niagara in the first of two meetings between the Battle of the Bridge rivals. That game between the Griffs and Purple Eagles will be the 107th in series history, dating back to 1975-76. Canisius will close out the first month of the 2027 year with a pair of home games against Saint Peter's (Jan. 28) and Manhattan (Jan. 30).
 
The month of February will start off with three-straight road games for the Griffs, as the Blue and Gold will go on the road to face Quinnipiac (Feb. 4), Marist (Feb. 6) and Niagara (Feb. 11). On Feb. 13, Canisius will play its only scheduled game of the season against Siena at home, and then return to the road for the final two road games of the regular season at Fairfield (Feb. 18) and Merrimack (Feb. 20). The Griffs will close out the 2026-27 regular season at home with a pair of home games against Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 25) and Rider (Feb. 27).
 
The 2027 Metro Conference Women's Basketball Championship tournament will be held March 4-8 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. The top-10 teams in the 13-team conference will qualify for the league's annual postseason event, with the tournament winner securing the conference's automatic berth into the 2027 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
