Golf Places Third at Annual Little Three Championship

The Canisius golf team opened the 2021 fall season by placing third in the 68th edition of the Little Three Golf Championship Tuesday at Pendleton Creek Golf Club in North Tonawanda, N.Y. The Golden Griffins posted a two-round team score of 588. St. Bonaventure won the tournament with a team score of 571, the Bonnies' sixth-straight team title, dating back to the 2016 tournament.

GRIFFS LINEUP
Junior Shane Broad was the Griffs' top performer on Tuesday, as he shot a two-round total of 144 (71-73) to tie for fifth in the field. Broad's 71 in the first round stands as a new career low for the Alden, N.Y., native, and the 144 score for the day is 10 strokes better than his previous career 36-hole tournament low. Senior Mike Donner tied for eighth in the event with his two-round score of 147, and freshman Ryan Edholm carded a two-round tally of 149 to place 13th overall in his first college tournament.

TEAM LEADERBOARD
The Bonnies claimed their sixth-straight Little Three Championship crown with a team score of 571, which was five strokes better than second-place Niagara.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
St. Bonaventure graduate student Christian Chapman won individual medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career with his two-round score of 139, highlighted by his opening-round five-under par score of 66. That score of 66 stands as the lowest round for a golfer in the Little Three Championship since Canisius' Michael Carrig shot 67 in the opening round at Harvest Hill Golf Course in Orchard Park, N.Y. St. Bonaventure took the top-three spots on the final leaderboard, with Danny Gianniny and Andrew Lacongo posting scores of 140 and 143, respectively. Niagara's Tyler Edholm tied for third in the field with Lacongo with his two-round score of 143.

HEAD COACH TODD HUMMEL'S POST TOURNAMENT COMMENTS
"It is nice to be able to start the year with an event at a local course against two long-time rivals. I thought Shane [Broad] played well today. It was good to see him start the fall season with a strong performance."
