FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
The Canisius women's basketball team opens MAAC play Sunday when it hosts Saint Peter's at the Koessler Athletic Center. Tipoff between the Peacocks and Golden Griffins is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Sunday is also the program's Ugly Sweater Game, where the first 50 fans to enter will receive a Canisius Ugly Sweater T-shirt, presented by Independent Health. Fans are also strongly encouraged to wear an ugly sweater to the game.

2. Opening MAAC Play
Sunday's contest marks the opening of the program's 33rd season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Canisius is 14-18 all-time in MAAC openers and is 9-11 when the team's first MAAC contest is played at home.

The Blue and Gold are seeking to win their first MAAC opener since defeating Manhattan at home, 47-44, on Jan. 5, 2019.

3. Series History
Sunday afternoon will mark the 70th all-time meeting between the two Jesuit institutions. Canisius holds a one-game advantage in the series, 35-34.

Despite losing the last four games to Saint Peter's, Canisius has won 13 of its last 17 against the Peacocks.

Playing against Saint Peter's at the Koessler Athletic Center has bode well for the Griffs as they have won 15 of the last 17 home contests against the Peacocks.

4. Leading the MAAC
Sophomore guard Dani Haskell has made 28 of her 32 free throw attempts this season. Her .875 free throw percentage leads the MAAC and is tied for 31st amongst Division I players. Over her 14 collegiate appearances, Haskell has missed just five career attempts from the charity stripe, going 44-of-49 (.898).

As a team, Canisius leads the MAAC in 3-point field goals made per game this season. The Griffs have averaged 7.0 made 3-pointers per game, which is tied for 86th in Division I. Quinnipiac is right behind the Griffs with its 6.9 per-game average.

5. Thriving at Home
Not only is Haskell thriving at the free-throw line this season, she has averaged 16.5 points over four games played at the Koessler Athletic Center this season. Her average is the highest by a Canisius player since 2008-09 when Marie Warner averaged 16.6 points over 14 games.

Haskell is the fourth player (fifth occurrence) over the last 20 seasons to average at least 16 points per home game in a single season.

The Franklinville, N.Y., native joins Warner, Jénel Stevens (18.7 PPG across 11 games in 2002-03; 18.4 PPG over 10 games in 2003-04) and D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks (16.1 PPG in 13 games in 2019-20) on the list.
