Five Things to Know: Hockey Finishes Road Swing at Clarkson Tuesday

Game No. 5
Canisius (2-2-0) at Clarkson (1-1-0)
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 19
Time: 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Canisius (PDF) | Clarkson

1) Puck Drop
The Canisius hockey team finishes its season-opening road swing Tuesday when it squares off against Clarkson in a 7 p.m. puck drop at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.
The midweek matchup between the Golden Griffins and the Golden Knights serves as the front end of a home-and-home series between the two Empire State rivals this season. The teams are scheduled to meet on Jan. 3 at LECOM Harborcenter to complete the series.

2) On the Road … Again
Canisius' contest at Clarkson brings its five-game season-opening road swing to a close. It is the longest stretch away from home to open a campaign for the Blue and Gold since a six-game road trip to begin the 2013-14 season. That year, the Griffs did not step on home ice until Nov. 9, 28 days after the regular season began.

3) Mastrodonato Piling Up Goals in the Early Going
Junior foward Keaton Mastrodonato has gotten off to a hot start in 2021-22 as the Powell River, British Columbia native has scored a goal in each of the Griffs' four games this season. He is the first Canisius player to score in four or more consecutive games to open a season since Rob Martin found the back of the net in the first six games of the 2001-02 season.

4) Former Lake Superior State Lakers Square Off
Tuesday's contest between Canisius and Clarkson serves as a reunion of sorts for a pair of Lake Superior State Lakers as graduate forward Alex Ambrosio takes on Clarkson graduate defenseman Lukas Kaelble. Ambrosio and Kaelble spent four seasons together at Lake State, helping the Lakers capture the WCHA Championship in 2021.

5) Up Next
Canisius opens the home portion of its 2021-22 schedule on Halloween Weekend as it welcomes Ferris State to LECOM Harborcenter for a non-conference series. The Griffs and Bulldogs open their two-game set Oct. 29 before wrapping the series the following evening. Puck drop for both contests is set for 7 p.m.
