Long and Kulakowski Join 2021-22 Men’s Basketball Roster

Canisius head men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon announced today that Xzavier Long (Washington, D.C) and Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) have joined the men's basketball roster for the 2021-22 season.
 
Long and Kulakowski are both freshmen, and join with fellow newcomers Delveion Jackson and Tahj Staveskie on this year's roster. Canisius returns 10 letterwinners from a season ago, including forward Scott Hitchon, who is returning to the program for his fifth-year while pursuing his master's degree.
 
Xzavier Long | 6-7 | 190 | G | Washington, D.C. | Virginia Academy
• Averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 2020-21 at Virginia Academy, a private school located in Ashburn, Va.
• Scored 20-plus points in multiple games and had two occasions with 30-or more points scored for the Patriots.
• Played for head coach Joseph Haggler at Virginia Academy.
• Was a member of the famed DC United AAU program, widely considered one of the top AAU programs in the nation.
• He is majoring in business marketing at Canisius.

Brandon Kulakowski | 6-3 | 180 | G | Brewerton, N.Y. | Central Square | Bridgton Academy
• Was good for 15.3 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game in his senior season (2019-20) at Central Square High School near Syracuse, N.Y.
• A team captain for the Redhawks in his senior season, Kulakowski earned second-team all-league honors and was an all-state honorable mention.
• Spent the 2020-21 academic year at Bridgton Academy in Bridgton, Maine.
• His older brother, Jake, played basketball at SUNY POLY, and his father, John, also played basketball at Mohawk Valley Community College.
• He is majoring in sport management at Canisius.

Witherspoon on Kulakowski: "Brandon comes from a strong prep school program and he comes from a family that is passionate about basketball. We look forward what he brings to our program on the court, and we believe he is going to be another strong addition to our campus community."
