Wells Leads Golf in Opening Round of UConn Invite

Canisius junior Michael Wells shot a three-over score of 75, and the Golden Griffin golf team recorded a team score of 307 to sit in eighth place after one round of the 2019 UConn Invitational at GreatHorse Golf Club in Hampden, Mass.
 
Wells is tied for 17th after the first 18 holes, one of three Canisius golfers ranked among the field's top-30 after the first day. As a team, the Blue and Gold are two shots back of seventh-place Fairleigh Dickinson and four shots back of Hartford.
 
GRIFFS LINEUP
Well, who leads the field in par-3 scoring after 18 holes, has now posted 75 in back-to-back rounds after he carded a 75 in the final round at the Cornell Invitational Sept. 15. Senior Jaret Chipman and junior Matt Genaway are tied for 26th in the field after both players shot a 76 on Sunday, while sophomore Mike Donner is tied for 63rd after he posted an eight-over-par score of 80.

NEXT ON THE TEE
The second round of the UConn Invitational is set to tee-off Monday, with players going off No. 1 and No. 10 tee, starting at 8:30 a.m.
