Hanes Wins BDGA Match Play Championship

Canisius golfer David Hanes won his second-straight Buffalo District Golf Association (BDGA) Match Play Championship June 9 at Lancaster Country Club after he defeated Mike Piccillo 1-Up with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Hanes, who was the top-seed in the 16-man BDGA Match Play Championship Open Division, opened defense of his 2018 crown by defeating Benjamin Spitz, 6&4. The Elma, N.Y., native needed 19 holes to defeat Kevin Borowicz in the quarterfinal round of the tournament before advancing to the championship match with a 4&3 victory over Jon Roland in the semifinals.

The reigning BDGA Men's Player of the Year, Hanes will start his senior season as a member of the Canisius golf program when the team returns to action in the fall.
