Indoor Track Rounds Out MAAC Championships

The Canisius indoor track teams finished in eighth place on both the men's and women's side of the 2019 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships after two days of competition at the New Balance Armory in New York City.

Canisius junior Nick Neamtu recorded a fifth-place finish in the men's 3000 meters with a time of 8:36.38. The Golden Griffins 4x800 relay team of Paul Henry, Josh Sopchak, Turner Dirrigl and Connor Doran was the fifth team to cross the finish line with a mark of 7:50.13.

In the women's running of the 3,000 meters, senior Carlin Sullivan finished the event with a mark of 10:22.91. Teammates Aileen Doyle and Kayla Stewart posted times of 10:28.90 and 10:50.57, respectively. Stewart's time was good enough for second-place in her heat.

Monmouth swept the men's and women's team titles for the second-straight year. Rider beat out Iona for second place in the men's standings, followed by Manhattan, Siena and Marist in fourth through sixth position. Ahead of Canisius in seventh place was Saint Peter's, edging out the Griffs by just one point.

On the women's side, Rider and Manhattan took second and third place, respectively, while Quinnipiac and Iona rounded out the top-five teams. Marist, Siena, Canisius and Saint Peter's rounded out the team standings.

Canisius concludes the indoor track season March 2-3 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. Following a brief break the Griffs will then begin their outdoor track season at the Raleigh Relays Mar. 29.
