Men’s Basketball to Wear Throwback Uniforms Nov. 23

In honor of Canisius' 150th anniversary and the 100-year rivalry between Canisius and St. Bonaventure on the hardwood, the Golden Griffin men's basketball team will wear special throwback uniforms when the Blue and Gold takes on the Bonnies Saturday, Nov. 23 at KeyBank Center.

The Griffs' throwback uniforms, which pay homage to the Canisius uniforms from the 1940s, features the Canisius word mark in "old" gold outlined in white in an arched format on the chest, along with the College's Sesquicentennial patch.

Both the jersey and shorts will be highlighted with a barber-pole styled stripping down each side. The shorts will also feature a sublimated belt in honor of the uniform style that was popular during the 1940s.

Canisius first met St. Bonaventure in men's basketball on Jan. 23, 1920, a 31-14 win for the Bonnies. Since that time, the two schools have played 167 contests, meeting at least once a season in every year, except for a three-year span during World War II (1943-44 through 1945-46) and then again in 2001-02. This season's match-up will mark the first time the two long-time rivals have squared off on the hardwood in KeyBank Center since Nov. 28, 2008 – a 68-66 victory for the Blue and Gold. Dating back to the 1940-41 season, Canisius and St. Bonaventure have met at either The Aud, Marine Midland Arena or HSBC Arena 73 times.

The Canisius – St. Bonaventure game will be the back-half of a college basketball doubleheader at KeyBank Center, with Daemen and Wilmington starting the action at 12 p.m. Tickets for the doubleheader are on sale now and cost $25, with a limited number of courtside seats available for $35.
