Five Things to Know Before Canisius Open MAAC Play
1. Griffs Open MAAC Play at Marist
• Canisius officially opens its 30th season of MAAC play on Thursday night when the Golden Griffins travel to play at Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Canisius enters Thursday's contest on a six-game
MAAC-opener win streak, the longest streak in program history. The Griffs 15-14 all-time in MAAC openers, but the team is 0-2 when playing the first conference game of the season against Marist.

2. Getting Offensive (Rebounds)
• Canisius has improved its efforts on the glass in recent games, highlighted by the team's season-high 41 boards in the loss to Buffalo Dec. 29. Of those 41 rebounds, 17 came off the offensive glass, with 12 of those coming after halftime. Eight of the nine Griffs that saw time in the Buffalo game had at least one offensive rebound, with sophomore Takal Molson grabbing five and junior Dantai St. Louis pulling down three offensive boards.


3. Molson Scoring at the Line
• Takal Molson leads the Griffs and ranks fourth in the MAAC with his 16.4 points per game scoring average. The Buffalo, N.Y., native starts MAAC play on Thursday ranked fourth in the MAAC in free-throw shooting percentage at 80.0 percent, and his 70 trips to the charity stripe are tied for second-most in the conference.


4. Johnson Good for 5-5-5
• Canisius junior Malik Johnson was credited with five assists in the loss to Buffalo, the third-straight game where he distributed five assists in a game. The Richmond, Va., native enters Thursday's game ranked 12th in school history with his 331 career assists, the most among all active Canisius players.


5. Faulkner Adds Fuel Off the Bench
• Senior Jibreel Faulkner hit a career-high three 3-point field goals in the loss to Buffalo. He finished the night with nine points. In the team's last five games, the Washington, D.C., native is averaging 9.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
