Indoor Track Competes at RIT Invitational

The Canisius indoor track programs took part in the RIT Invitational in Rochester, N.Y., Saturday afternoon.
 
For the men, junior Marcus Brown had the lone first-place finish on the day, winning the 800 with a time of 2:00.76. Junior Nick Neamtu finished in second place, clocking in at 4:31.08 in the mile and senior Paul Henry finished the 1,000 meter in 2:38.43 for third place.  
 
In the men's 3,000, freshman Michael Peppy, sophomore Turner Dirrigl and junior Anthony Belfatto finished three-four-five with times of 9:20.40, 9:21.00 and 9:21.05. The relay team of Henry, junior Nick Spinosa, freshman Richard Moore, senior Alex Cambria and Peppy placed fourth in the 1600 relay to round out the day for the men.
 
The women ran in a total of seven events with seniors Carlin Sullivan and Siobhan Quinn winning theirs. Sullivan won the mile with a time of 5:25.19. freshman Bailey Pierce and sophomore Kayla Leo also finished in the top-five of the mile with times of 5:24.21 and 5:46.49. Quinn won the 3,000, crossing the line in 10:14.30, followed by senior Aileen Doyle in 10:45.09 and Katie Simon 12:16.10 in second and third position.
 
Sophomores Emily Scheck and Grace Hausladen finished four-five in the 800, clocking in at 2:41.09 and 2:41.60, respectively. Sophomore Isabella Iadicicco and Libby Benzer ran in the 1,000-meter finishing with times of 3:25.18 and 3:30.89 in second and third place. Freshman Carly Benson ran in the 500-yard dash, coming in with a time of 1:40.17, while junior Rachel Joachimi ran the 400, completing the event in 1:09.16.
 
The relay team of Joachimi, sophomore Isabella Jankowski, Iadicicco, Leo, Pierce, Scheck and junior Justyna Wilkinson finished the 1600 relay in 4:43.21, good enough for third place.
 
Up Next
The Blue and Gold head to Ithaca, N.Y., to compete in the Upstate Challenge hosted by Cornell on Jan. 19. The event is set to start at 1 p.m.
