Crumpton and Reese Earn All-District Honors

Canisius senior forward Jermaine Crumpton and sophomore guard Isaiah Reese were named to the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District I Second Team, it was announced Thursday. Crumpton and Reese are the first Golden Griffins to earn NABC all-district honors since Billy Baron was recognized after the 2013-14 season.

Crumpton and Reese were joined on the second-team by Albany's Joe Cremo, Rider's Dimencio Vaughn and UMass-Lowell's Jahad Thomas.

Crumpton, the 2018 MAAC Co-Player of the Year, ended his collegiate career on Wednesday night with the Griffs' overtime loss to Jacksonville State in the opening round of the 2018 College Basketball Invitational. The Niagara Falls, N.Y., native averaged 17.1 points per game in his senior season, where he shot 48.1 percent from the field and made 47 3-point field goals. An All-MAAC First-Team honoree in 2017-18, Crumpton ended his time on Main Street with 1,587 career points, which ties him for sixth on the school's all-time scoring chart with former Griff Darrell Barley. Just the eighth player in school history to play more than 120-career games in a Canisius uniform, he also leaves the program ranked seventh in career 3-point field goals made with 159.

Reese just the second Canisius sophomore to earn All-MAAC First Team honors, and the first since Micheal Meeks in 1994. The Miami, Fla., native averaged 16.9 points per game in his sophomore season, while leading the team in rebounding average (5.8), assists per game (4.7), steals per game (2.2) and total 3-point makes (83). His 83 connections from behind the 3-point line makes him the first Canisius sophomore to make more than 80 treys in a season, and his 73 steals ties him with former Griffs guard Craig Wise for second on the school's single-season steals list.

Canisius finished the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 21-12 to go with a 15-3 mark in MAAC play. The 2017-18 MAAC co-regular season champions, the Griffs tied the program record for regular season wins with 21, and the 15 league victories are a new program record. Crumpton and Reese both earned All-MAAC First Team honors, giving Canisius two representatives on the MAAC's top postseason all-star unit since 1995-96. The team's appearance in the CBI was the program's fifth postseason berth in the last six seasons.
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
