Men’s Basketball to Open Metro Conference Play at Home Dec. 4

2026-27 SCHEDULE  |  BUY/RENEW SEASON TICKETS
The Canisius men's basketball team will open the 2026-27 Metro Conference schedule at home against Rider on Dec. 4, the conference office announced Thursday.

The conference schedule announcement comes on the heels of the Golden Griffins publishing their 2026-27 non-league slate, which was posted online Aug. 18. To read that release, CLICK HERE.

For the third-straight year, the Metro Conference schedule will be unbalanced. Each school in the 13-team league will play eight opponents twice (one home, one on the road) and four other conference rivals once each. Per the Metro scheduling policy, each school is guaranteed to play its closest geographic opponent two times, but the remaining opponents a school plays only once are chosen at random. For the 2026-27 season, Canisius will not host Manhattan or Siena, and the Griffs are not scheduled to play road games at Iona or Quinnipiac.

Season tickets for the combined home men's and women's basketball schedule are on sale now through the Canisius Ticket Office by CLICKING HERE. Fans can also purchase their season ticket plans, which cost $240 for reserved and $140 for general admission, by calling the ticket office during normal business hours at (716) 888-TIXX.

The Griffs will play their first official game under the Metro Conference brand on Dec. 4, when the Blue and Gold plays host to Rider. The conference opener against the Broncs will mark the first time Canisius has started league play against Rider since the 2017-18 campaign. Canisius will close out the first weekend of Metro games on Dec. 6, with a home game against Mount St. Mary's.

After the conclusion of the non-league slate and the Christmas holiday, Canisius will start the 2027 calendar year at Marist on Jan. 1. The game against the Red Foxes in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., will be the Griffs' 20th all-time contest on New Year's Day, and it will be the program's first New Year's Day road game since Jan. 1, 2012, when the team played at Fairfield. The date with Marist will also be the first of 10 games for the Griffs in the month of January. Canisius will close out the first weekend of the new year Jan. 3 with a road game at Sacred Heart.

On Jan. 8, Canisius will return home for the first time in over a month to play host to Saint Peter's, and the Griffs will also host Iona Jan. 10, before returning to the road to play at Merrimack (Jan. 16) and Fairfield (Jan. 18). The game at Fairfield on Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be the Griffs' first on that holiday since the 2002-03 season.

After hosting Sacred Heart on Jan. 22, Canisius will start a three-game road stretch to end the month of January, as Canisius is the only team in the Metro Conference to play three-straight road league games at any point this season. On Jan. 24, the Griffs will travel to play longtime rival Niagara in the 198th all-time meeting between the schools, followed by road contests at Saint Peter's (Jan. 29) and Manhattan (Jan. 31).

The month of February starts with three-straight home games, as the Griffs will take on Quinnipiac (Feb. 5), Marist (Feb. 7) and Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara (Feb. 11). After making a trip east on the New Yor State Thruway to play at Siena Feb. 13, Canisius will return home the following weekend to close the home portion of the 2026-27 slate with games against Fairfield (Feb. 19) and Merrimack (Feb. 21). Canisius will close out the 2026-27 regular season on the road with games at Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 26) and Rider (Feb. 28).

The 2027 Metro Conference Men's Basketball Championship tournament will be held March 4-9 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. The top-10 teams in the 13-team conference will qualify for the league's annual postseason event, with the tournament winner securing the conference's berth into the 2027 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
