Late Home Run Lifts Kent State Past Baseball

With the score knotted up 5-5 in the seventh inning, Brad Hamilton of Kent State belted a three-run home run to lift the Golden Flash past the Canisius baseball, 8-5. With the loss the Griffs dropped to 26-18, while Kent State improved 28-13.

With runners at the corners, pitcher Michael Ginther came on in relief to face the pinch hitter. Hamilton won the battle sending a ball over the left field fence to push the Golden Flash in front.

Carson Perkins got the start for Canisius and worked three innings and allowed thriee hits and four runs and fanned six in the no-decision. Jared Kennedy and Nolan Hunt worked the next four innings and limited Kent State to just three hits and one run.

Will Frank ran into trouble after two outs in the seventh before being lifted for Ginther. His final line was two hits and two runs as he drops to 2-2. Ginther finished his day with one hit and one run allowed in 1.1 frames, while Tyler Smith worked the final inning and set down the side with a pair of strikeouts.

Ryan Stekl and Mark McKenna led the team with a pair of hits each. The duo also both tallied one RBI in the loss. Five different Griffs tallied RBI in the contest.

Canisius got on the board first Kent State took over with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The Blue and Gold knotted it up 2-2 ni the bottom of the frame, while Kent State retook the lead with a three-run rally in the top of the fourth.

The Griffs plated one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie things up at 5-5, before the Golden Flash long ball snapped the tie.

Canisius returns to action this weekend, heading out on its final road trip of the season, taking on Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and have a finale on Sunday. Start times will be slated for noon on both days.
