Box Score

The Canisius baseball team broke a 1-1 tie late in the 10th inning, scoring on a wild pitch to improve to 3-1 on the weekend, and defeating Fordham, 2-1 in Wilson, N.C. With the win the Griffs improve to 9-3 overall this season and Fordham drops to 2-8.

After tying the game up in the top of the seventh, the two teams battled through a defensive contest, trading chances but not cashing in, until the Griffs broke through in the top of the 10th.

William Krull strikeout to started the frame, before Joseph Preziuso singled up the middle the very next at-bat. Following the first two batters, John Novenche reached thanks to an error to put runners on first and second.

With two runners on, Brandon Martin hurled a wild pitch that moved the runners over to third and second, and then another wild pitch brought home Preziuso for the go-ahead run.

Tyler Smith came on in the bottom half of the inning to record his second save of the season. The junior closer induced a pop-up for the first out, and fanned the next batter for a pair of quick outs.  An error allowed Fordham to put one aboard, however Smith induced a groundout to end the inning a batter later.

Both teams struggled to solve the opposing hurlers, as each team recorded four hits each. Errors continued to play a role in the decision as Fordham tallied a trio while the Griffs were charged with a pair of errors.

Four different Griffs recorded hits in the contest as Liam Wilson, Ryan Stekl, Krull, and Preziuso all recorded knocks.

Andrew Kneussle got his first start of the season and worked an effective four frames, allowing just one hit and one run (unearned) and fanned one batter for the no-decision.

Nolan Hunt came on in relief and worked 2.2 innings, yielding one hit and no runs. Will Frank improved to 2-0 on the season, as he followed Hunt and held the Rams to just two hits and struck out a pair of batters.
