Five Things to Know before Canisius plays at Buffalo
1. Griffs Open 2017-18 Season at Buffalo

• For the first time since 2006-07, Canisius will start the season against rival Buffalo. The meeting on Saturday will be the 50th in series history. Canisius is 32-17 all-time against the Bulls.

2. Buy Yourself A Program
• Canisius starts the 114th season in school history with plenty of new faces. The Griffs' 2017-18 roster features six new scholarship players. Eight of the second-year head coach Reggie Witherspoon's are either freshmen or sophomores.

3. Crumpton Provides Veteran Presence
• Canisius senior Jermaine Crumpton is familiar to both Canisius fans and MAAC fans. The Niagara Falls, N.Y., native, who has lost nearly 30 pounds since the end of last season, is the team's top returning scorer and rebounder. Last month, he was named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team, making him the first Canisius player to earn that honor since Billy Baron in 2013-14.

4. Canisius in Rare Company
• Canisius starts the 2017-18 season holding one distinction over the other 10 MAAC schools, as the Griffs are the only team in the league to return multiple All-MAAC honorees from the end of the 2016-17 campaign. Crumpton was an All-MAAC Third Team selection last fall, while sophomore guard Malik Johnson earned MAAC All-Rookie honors. Johnson is just the ninth Griff in school history to be named to the MAAC's top rookie unit.

5. Reese is a Key Piece
• Canisius sophomore guard Isaiah Reese is one of three returning Griffs that played in all 34 games last season. The Miami, Fla., native averaged 7.1 points per game last year, and then broke out on the team's foreign tour to Canada in Augst, where he averaged 21 points per game in five contests. In the Griffs' exhibition win over Colgate Nov. 1, Reese scored 24 points and dished out six assists as well.
