Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Canisius baseball team had its offense sputter on Tuesday, as the squad dropped a midweek contest at Buffalo, 4-2. The Griffs scattered seven hits through the nine innings, falling to 25-20 overall, while Buffalo improves to 14-26. The Blue and Gold and Bufflao finish its season series, tied with two wins apiece.
Andrew Kneussle got the start for Canisius, and worked four full innings, as he allowed six hits, three runs (two earned) and fanned two in the loss. Aaron Casper came on and relieved Kneussle, throwing for three innings and had one hiccup along the way, surrendering four hits, and one earned run, while striking out six Bulls.
Tyler Smith finished the game, as he tossed a scoreless eighth inning, retiring all three batters he faced, one by a strikeout.
Offensively, Anthony Massicci stayed hot from the leadoff position, tallying twho hits and one run from the top of the order. He was the only member of the Blue and Gold to register more than one knock. Tim Kensinger and Alex O'Donnell each had an RBI in the loss.
The Griffs got started quickly, as Massicci tallied a lead off double to kick off the game. Following a Jake Lumley line out, Massicci stole third and was brought in on a fielders choice by Kensinger.
It didn't take long for Buffalo to answer, as Bobby Sheppard, like Massicci, also doubled to start the inning. Vinny Mallaro followed that up with a double a batter later and brought in Sheppard to tie the game.
The Bulls took the lead in the home half of the second, as Alex Thrower reached ona fielders choice and rove in Charlie Sobeiraski to make it 2-0.
With the score 3-1, the Blue and Gold did cut the lead back to one in the top of the sixth, as O'Donnell grounded out to second base and drove in Mark McKenna in the process. However that's as close as the Griffs came, with Buffalo adding one more run in the seventh to help secure its 4-2.
Canisius plays one more midweek contest tomorrow, as the squad takes on St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
