Siena Ends Baseball's Postseason Run, 5-0

Box Score FISHKILL, N.Y. – The Siena pitching staff quieted the Canisius College bats on Friday night, as the squad held the Blue and Gold to five hits in its 4-0 win on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. With the loss the Griffs run to defend its MAAC title was ended by Saints. Canisius concludes the season with a 32-27 overall, while Siena advances to the final round of the 2016 MAAC tournament to face Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.

Siena pitcher Chris Amorosi, who came into the contest with a 3-5 record and a 7.17 ERA kept the Griffs batters off balance for a majority of the evening, finishing the game with 7.2 innings pitched, five strikeouts and no runs to earn the victory.

J.P. Stevenson started for the Blue and gold and worked three innings and allowed seven hits and four earned runs as he dropped to 2-6 on the year.

However freshman hurler Andrew Kneussle came on in relief and shut down the Siena offense allowing just two hits and one unearned run to keep the Blue and Gold to within striking distance.

The Griffs' most consistent threat in the tournament proved to be just that once again, as Anthony Massicci recorded three hits including a double, finishing the tournament with a .625 batting average.

Stevenson worked into trouble in the first frame, putting two Saints aboard before a Brian Kelly singled to right field to start the carousel. Dan Swain came in to score on the hit but Tricarico threw out Jordan Bishop at the plate.

Kelly struck again in the bottom of the third frame, as he drilled a two-run blast over the left field fence to give the Saints the 4-0 lead.

The Griffs appeared to have gotten a run back in the top of the seventh but a double, which scored Preziuso, was called back as a ground-rule double and Preziuso was forced to return to third base. Kensinger ended the frame with a pop-up to second and the Blue and Gold were held scoreless in the frame.

Following back-to-back walks by Amorosi in the eighth inning, Siena pitcher Brian Goosens came on in relief and finished out the game going 1.1 innings and got the save.

Canisius finishes the season with a 32-27 record and having gone 16-8 in the MAAC. The Griffs also qualified for the MAAC tournament for a conference-best 10th straight time this season, and boasted the 2016 MAAC reliever of the year in Iannick Remillard, and conference players Remillard, Massicci, and Lumley.
