BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Canisius Baseball team scored six runs through the first six innings, as the squad defeated Campbell 7-4 in Buies Creek, N.C. on Saturday afternoon. With the win Canisius improves to 3-7 while, Campbell drops to 5-5 with the loss.
The Griffs got off to a strong start in the contest, cashing in on three Camels fielding errors, as Tim Kensinger, Christ Conley and Anthony Massicci all crossed the plate for the Blue and Gold.
Pitching behind the early lead, Josh Shepley pitched five strong innings, recording two strikeouts and scattered five hits and three runs in the outing, as he improved to 1-0.
Aaron Casper came on in relief and pitched two innings, and surrendered three hits and one run, fanning three.
Iannick Remillard earned his second save of the year, coming on for the final two innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Grant Yost was the hard-luck loser, pitching six inning, and allowing six runs on just three hits, as he struck out five Griffs batters. The duo of Wes Noble and Zach Minnick combined for three innings of work and yielded just one run and one hit.
Adam Tricarico was the offensive catalyst in the back end of the lineup as he registered two hits in four at bats and recorded a career-high three RBI in the outing. Ryan Stekl was responsible for the other RBI in the game, while Anthony Massicci and Liam Wilson also registered hits in the contest.
Canisius extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning, as Massicci doubled to left field, and Stekl brought him in after grounding out to first base.
The Camels answered back in the home half of the frame, with a two-hit, two-run rally to cut the score to 4-2.
The Griffs managed to put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth, as Wilson recorded a base knock and Jake Walter reached on a wild pitch to set up Tricarico. The second-year outfielder singled through the left side as Walter and Wilson scored to make it 6-2.
The Camels managed to score a run in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh innings but the bullpen closed the door, as the Griffs evened the series against Campbell, setting up the rubber match.
The Griffs are back in action one final time this weekend, as Blue and Gold takes on the Camels on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for noon.
