Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Canisius baseball team recorded the Easter Day victory on Sunday, as the squad used a five-run rally in the bottom fourth to help vault the team to a 11-7 win at the Demske Sports Complex. With the win the Griffs improved to 9-13 overall and 3-0 in conference, while Saint Peter's dropped to 4-13 and 0-3 in the conference.
Trailing 7-5, the Griffs mounted a comeback in the fourth inning, as the Blue and Gold rapped out four hits and five runs, capped by an inside the park homerun by Anthony Massicci. The roundtrip at-bat resulted in a trio of runs, as Canisius ended the frame up 10-7.
Alex Godzak got the start for the Blue and Gold and battled through a error-plagued inning, finishing the game with one inning pitched, allowing one hit and three runs with just one earned. Aaron Casper got the win in the contest as he worked the next four innings, and allowed three hits, and four runs (one earned), as he improved to 2-0 on the year.
Michael Ginther came on in the sixth inning, and worked a scoreless 1.2 innings, allowing just thee hits, and struckout one batter in the outing. Tyler Smith earned his first save of the year as the year as he worked 2.1 innings and yielded just one hit and fanned four.
The Peacock's staff ace struggled against the Griffs offense, as John Leiter worked 3.2 innings, allowed seven hits and got roughed up for 10 earned runs. Kevin Soriano and Mike Doran combined for 4.1 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run the rest of the way.
Offensively Junior Jake Lumley and Massicci led the way as the duo both hit homeruns in the contest and accounted for four RBI each. Lumley continued his strong weekend going 2-of-3 at the plate with one walk, while Massicci had one hit, as he recorded the inside the park homerun.
Canisius will now head on the road for a pair of midweek contests at West Virginia on Tuesday and Wednesday before continuing conference action against the team it defeated in the MAAC Championship in 2015, Siena on Saturday and Sunday. Game times are set for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
