Tyler Smith came on in relief and was equally effective, working three innings and surrendering just one hit and also struck out five batters.

Iannick Remillard worked himself one save closer to the program record (22) as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, retiring all three batters he faced, as he recorded his third save of the year.

In a game where offense was at a premium, the Griffs outhit the Hawks 6-3, with Ryan Stekl, doing the most damage, recording three hits in three at bats and recording a run and a walk in his efficient day.

Liam Wilson, Jake Lumley and Adam Tricarico had the other hits for the Blue and Gold.

The game started out grim for Canisius as Andrew Kneussle got the start and struggled through the firs two innings, surrendering three runs through the first two frames. He allowed five hits, three runs, all earned to give St. Joseph's the early advantage.

Freshman Nolan Hunt came on and worked 2.2 innings and continued to look impressive this season, allowing just two hits and one walk and recording three strikeouts. Senior Mike Elwood came on to work the rest of the game, throwing 4.1 innings and holding the Hawks hitless as he struck out for batters in the outing.

Tim Kensinger provided a spark at the top of the order, notching three hits in four at bats for the Blue and Gold and recording an RBI. Wilson led the team in RBI for the day as he notched two and was 1-of-3 from the dish. Anthony Massicci also had a good contest, recording two hits from the No. 3 spot in the order.

The Griffs, down 3-1, mounted an impressive eighth inning comeback, beginning with a Lumley walk, with two outs in the fame. Following the free pass, Massicci singled up the middle, advancing Lumley to second. Wilson followed that up the single with a double to centerfield, bringing in both Lumley and Massicci to knot the game up at 3-3.

With Wilson in scoring position, Stekl came up and belted a double to centerfield to give the Griffs a lead the team wouldn't relinquish.

Canisius now prepares for its first home week of the season, as the squad will host crosstown rival, Buffalo at the Demske Sports Complex on Tuesday.
