Box Score FISHKILL, N.Y. – The Canisius College baseball pushed the 2015 MAAC Baseball Championship to a second game on Saturday afternoon as the squad upended the No. 4 seeded Siena Saints, 10-5 at Dutchess Stadium. The 2015 MAAC champion will be decided in the second game, beginning at 3:10 p.m.
Freshman J.P. Stevenson had one of the best outings of his career in, setting a career-high in strikeouts with nine as he got the start for the Blue and Gold. The first-year hurler improved to 7-3 with a 4.20 ERA with the win.
The Griffs offense got to Siena starter Chris Amorosi early, scoring runs in three of the first four innings, including a five run bottom of the fifth that helped put the game out of reach.
On offense Anthony Massicci led the team in hits, as he finished the game one homerun shy of the cycle. Five different players notched a pair of RBI to spark the Griffs offense as Brett Siddall, Ryan Stekl, Jack Massa, Jake Lumley and Cyrus Senior all drove in a pair.
This is the sixth time in nine years the Golden Griffins have made it to the MAAC Championship; while it's the fourth-straight year they've made it to the deciding round.
Today's situation the opposite situation that Siena faced last season, as the Saints won the title in a two-game sweep of the Griffs in the championship round. Canisius will attempt to do the same in game two of today's championship round beginning at 3:10 p.m.
