Box Score The Canisius offense was on full display on Tuesday afternoon as the squad rapped out 15 hits and 16 runs to defeat Buffalo, 16-5 at the Demske Sports Complex. Brett Siddall hit his team-leading eighth and ninth homeruns as he led the squad with four RBI in the win. The Griffs now improve to 19-22 while the Bulls drop to 11-22.
The Canisius bats were locked in, as the Griffs tallied runs in all but three innings during the nine-frame affair. Siddall led the squad as he went 2-for-5 with two homeruns and four RBI. Both Jake Lumley and Connor Panas recorded a pair of RBI as well. Lumley and Ryan Stekl led the Griffs in the hit department with three apiece.
For Buffalo, Mitchel Machi launched a three-run homerun to help lead the Bulls in offense. Both Charlie Sobieraski and Chris Kwitzer tallied a pair of hits each.
Josh Shepley got the start for the Griffs, as he went five innings and scattered three hits and one earned run to improve to 1-2 this season. Brandon Bielecki came on in relief and pitched 3.0 innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs in the stretch. Tyler Smith finished the ninth as he retired three-straight batters, two by strikeout.
Brandon Bently got the start for Buffalo and got roughed up in four innings, as he allowed six hits and nine runs, five of which were earned for the loss. Logan Harasta came on and pitched 3.0 innings and allowed four hits and three runs. Alec Tuohy and Sebieraski both pitched an inning and yielded five hits and four runs between them.
The Griffs got on the board in the top of the second as Cyrus Senior reached base on a fielders choice and drove in Jesse Puscheck for the 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Lumley came on and belted a two-run single to right field and gave the Griffs the 3-1 lead.
With the score 5-1, Canisius did the most damage in the top of the fourth. After Lumley reached base thanks to an error, Anthony Massicci doubled down the left field line to bring in Lumley. Stekl got in on the action later on, as he drove in two as he singled up the middle. Puscheck followed Stekl with a double down the right field line to drive in the final run of the frame to make it 9-1, Griffs.
Siddall, having already belted one long ball in the game, recorded a repeat performance as he smacked a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth to help cap a three-hit frame, and helped the Griffs secure the 16-5 victory.
Canisius will head on the road to Akron tomorrow for its second mid-week contest at 3 p.m. against the Zips. The Griffs will then resume MAAC play this coming weekend at Monmouth on April 25-26.
