Junior
Jesse Kelso was
selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week on
Monday. Kelso wins the award for the first time in his career.
Kelso
hit .462 (6-for-13) in four starts last week, scoring eight runs, recording
three extra base hits and drawing five walks to post a .769 slugging percentage
and .611 on-base percentage. The 5-foot-10 outfielder also stole three bases
and drove in three runs in the series win at Longwood. Kelso scored multiple
runs in three of the four games and had two multi-hit games.
Kelso
ranks second in the MAAC in batting average (.426), first in runs scored (19),
first in hits (20), second in RBI (12), third in slugging percentage (.617) and
third in on-base percentage (.509).
Kelso
is the third Golden Griffin to win a weekly award from the MAAC this season.
Junior Garrett Cortright was named
the MAAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18, and freshman Brett Siddall was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on March 4.
Canisius, standing at 10-5 and winners in six of
its last seven games, returns to the field for a four-game series at Ohio University
this weekend. First pitch for Friday's game is set for 4 p.m. in Athens, Ohio.
