Sophomore forward Ryan
Bohrer of the Canisius College hockey team shared
Atlantic Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year honors, announced by the league on
Monday. Overall, Bohrer is one of a school-record 18 Griffs recognized on the
Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team.
Bohrer earned the league's top academic honor after earning
a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the second-straight year. The sophomore
forward tallied five points, one goal and four assists in 24 games during the
2010-11 season.
Joining Bohrer on the All-Academic Team included senior Scott Moser, who
collected the accolade for the fourth time in his career. Juniors Torrey Lindsay,
Ben Parker and
Preston Shupe were selected to the All-Academic Team for the third time.
Bohrer and classmate Taylor
Law were each named to the team for the second time,
while sophomores Tony Capobianco, Brian McGinty
and Patrick
Sullivan plus freshmen Keegan
Asmundson, Stephen Farrell, Cody Freeman, Matthew Grazen, Doug Jessey, Carl Larsson, Mitch McCrank, Logan Roe and Tyler Wiseman became first-time honorees.
To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an
individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in each academic
semester during the 2011-12 year.
The Griffs return 23 letterwinners this year from the
2010-11 season, including 93.6 percent of their scoring.
