Hockey Quartet Honored as AHA Announces All-Conference Teams

Four members of the Canisius hockey program were recognized as Atlantic Hockey America announced its all-conference teams on Wednesday.
 
Seniors forward Grant Porter and Killian Kiecker-Olson and junior forward Walter Zacher were all named to the All-AHA Third Team. Freshman defenseman FJ Buteau was also honored, garnering AHA All-Rookie Team distinction.
 
A native of Weston, Mass., Porter skated in all 26 league games for the Golden Griffins, finishing the regular season tied for fifth in the league's scoring race with 24 points. His 17 assists in conference play were tied for third most in the AHA while his 186 face-off wins was 11th best on the circuit.
 
Porter registered multiple points in seven league contests, highlighted by a three-assist effort in the Griffs 4-2 victory over RIT on Dec. 6. He also scored the game-winning goal in overtime of Canisius come-from-behind victory at Niagara on Jan. 31.
 
Kiecker-Olson led all Canisius players in both assists (17) and points (25) during conference play, finishing the campaign tied for second amongst all league players in assists and tied for third in points. He also paced the Griffs with a .520 face-off winning percentage, while ranking second on the team in both face-off wins (182) and faceoffs taken (350).
 
A native of Andover, Minn., Kiecker-Olson native tallied multiple points on nine occasions in conference play, highlighted by a career-best three points (1g-2a) in a 5-3 victory against Holy Cross on Feb. 14, part of a five-point weekend that earned him Atlantic Hockey Forward of the Week accolades.
 
Zacher garnered All-AHA led Canisius and was third in the league with 13 goals while ranking ninth in the AHA in points (23). The Buffalo native, who ranked second in the league in shots per game (3.61), tallied multiple points on three occasions, highlighted by a quartet of three-point performances.
 
A two-time AHA Forward of the Week, he notched his second career hat trick during the Griffs 5-3 victory against RIT on Jan. 16 and dished out a career-best three assists in Canisius 5-1 triumph against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara to close out the regular season on Feb. 28.
 
Buteau was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team after a freshman campaign that saw him skate in all 26 league games, pacing all conference rookie defenseman in goals (5) and points (15).
 
The Montreal native was tabbed the AHA Defenseman of the Month for January after notching seven points (2g-5a) in seven games. Buteau tallied multiple points in three games during conference play and scored the game-winning goal with a power-play tally in the Griffs 5-0 victory at Mercyhurst on Jan. 24.
