The Canisius College junior Joe Vogl placed 12th with a 54-hole total of 222 and the Golden Griffins recorded a final team score of 909 to finish fifth as play wrapped up at the 2012 MAAC Golf Championship at the Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. This marks the fourth-straight year where the Blue and Gold has finished fifth at the conference's championship tournament.    

Vogl shot a final round 78 on Sunday, and his three-day score of 222 stands as his career-low 54-hole tally. Senior Stephen Seeler shot a 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 16th with his score of 226. Junior Mike Spiotta also finished tied for 16th with his 54-hole score of 226 following a 77 in the final round.

The Griffs' fifth-place finish helped Canisius earn two points in the Battle of the Bridge standings to knot the 2011-12 score at 14.5 points for Canisius and 14.5 points for Niagara with two sports yet to compete this academic year. The Battle of the Bridge is an all-sports competition between Canisius and Niagara. The Purple Eagles placed ninth in the tournament with their three-day total of 969.

Loyola's Jay Mulieri won the McLeod Memorial Award as the tournament's individual champion after he shot 212 for the weekend, which was four-under par. The Greyhounds won the team crown as well with a score of 868, followed by Saint Peter's at 890. Fairfield had a team score of 294 in the final round to post a three-day total of 896 to place third, while Iona shot 296 as a team on Sunday to place fourth with a score of 899.

Three Canisius golfers were also named to the 2012 MAAC All-Academic Team on Sunday as well. Seeler was named to the league's top academic all-star unit for the third time in his career with his 3.75 GPA in accounting information systems. He was joined on the MAAC All-Academic list by fellow senior Scott Moser and junior Michael Carrig.
