The
Canisius College baseball team couldn't climb out of a four-run deficit and
dropped the series finale at Saint Peter's College 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. The
Golden Griffins fall to 19-19 on the season and are now 7-2 in the Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Saint
Peter's (13-22, 4-5 MAAC) built a 4-0 lead, getting one run in the first and
then three runs in the third on a three-run homer from Brian Koster. The Griffs
cut into that deficit with a three-run top of the fifth, with sophomore Jimmy Luppens drawing a one-out walk
and junior Brooklyn Foster following
with a single. Sophomore Ryan Coppinger
and freshman Mike Krische had
back-to-back RBI singles while sophomore Jose
Torralba brought home a run with a sacrifice fly to cut Saint Peter's lead
to 4-3.
The
Peacocks added an insurance run in the sixth as Canisius would get at least one
runner into scoring position in three of the final four innings. The Griffs
couldn't capitalize on the opportunities as the duo of Matt Mancini and Dom Macaluso
limited the Griffs to three runs on the day.
Redshirt
junior Billy Martin (3-3) received
the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in four innings. Redshirt junior Nathan Linseman allowed one run in 1.1 innings
of relief while freshman Rohn Pierce
threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Canisius
concludes its eight-game road swing at the University at Buffalo on Wednesday.
First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
