Canisius 7, Marshall 5
Canisius overcame four errors in the opening game of the day, executing well in a
number of hitting situations in the two-run win over Marshall. The Thundering
Herd took the lead in the top of the third, taking advantage of three Canisius
errors in the inning to score an unearned run off Canisius starter Garrett Cortright.
The
Griffs came back with three runs in the bottom of the third as junior Christian Segar led off with a single
and moved to second on a groundout from sophomore Ronnie Bernick. After freshman Mike

RBI singles to put Canisius ahead by two.
Marshall
cut the lead in half on a one-out, solo homer from Issac Ballou in the fifth.
Cortright kept it a one-run game with a 1-6-3 double play to end the top of the
sixth inning. The first two Canisius batters reached in the bottom of the sixth
as sophomore Jose Torralba led off
with a walk and junior Brooklyn Foster

sacrifice bunt, trading an out to put two runners in scoring position. Segar
then squeezed home Torralba and reached on the sacrifice bunt to make it 4-2
and put runners at the corners. Another bunt, this one from Bernick, put
runners at second and third with two outs. The Griffs then drew three straight
walks - one from Krsiche to load the bases and one each to Zimmer and Pettit to
force home two runs - and go up 6-2.
The
second homer of the day from Ballou made it 6-3 in the seventh and the
Thundering Herd added two runs in the top of the eighth, taking advantage of a
one-out error, on a two-RBI single from Adrian Farris to cut the Canisius lead

Senior Alex Tufts came on in relief
of Stewart and after giving up an RBI single, induced a double play that tied
the game but got Canisius two outs as the Hawks didn't do any more damage in
the inning.
Saint
Joseph's broke open the game in the seventh when the first six batters reached.
