Canisius College freshman Jose Torralba (Mississauga, Ontario)
was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Torralba led Canisius with a .538 batting
average in five games last week. The freshman had seven hits and posted a .647
on-base percentage. Torralba had three multi-hit games and reached base in all
three of his plate appearances in the 3-1 win at Rider, including a two-out,
two-RBI single in the sixth inning that proved to score the game-winning runs.
In MAAC play, Torralba ranks third on the
team with a .377 batting average to go along with seven runs scored and six RBI
while posting a .431 on-base percentage.
Canisius returns to the field on
Wednesday, with a single game at Le Moyne. The Golden Griffins and Dolphins
will play at 4 p.m. in Syracuse.
