Hockey Falls at Bowling Green, 3-1

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Canisius College hockey team fell to Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. The loss drops the Griffs to 2-5-1 on the season, while the CCHA's Falcons improve to 6-5-1.

"Our compete level was much higher today," said Canisius head coach Dave Smith. "We had a small lapse after we scored and that decided the game. We learned how long and how hard you need to be at full steam to be successful at this level."

Sophomore Taylor Law scored for Canisius in the defeat, while classmate Tony Capobianco posted 31 saves.

The Falcons opened the scoring 10:28 into the contest when Ryan Carpenter redirected a wide shot into the back of the net for early 1-0 advantage.

The Griffs knotted the game at one with 3:22 remaining in the second period when Law tallied his second goal of the 2011-12 campaign. Junior Torrey Lindsay fired a shot toward goal and Law cleaned up the rebound to pull Canisius even. Junior Chris Barrea also registered an assist on the goal.

Bowling Green answered right back with two goals in a 60-second span for a 3-1 lead after two periods of play. While on the power play, the puck lofted into the air and once it hit the ice, Ryan Viselli knocked it in for the go-ahead tally with 2:19 left in the period. Just one minute later, Cameron Sinclair scored on a rebound to stretch the Falcons lead to two, 3-1.

After finishing the second period with three goals in a 2:03 span, the defenses clamped down in the third. Neither team was able to score in the final frame with the Falcons earning the 3-1 victory.

Bowling Green finished with a 34-12 advantage in shots on the afternoon. The Falcons also converted 1-of-3 power-play opportunities, while Canisius went 0-for-4 with the extra-man advantage. Andrew Hammond posted 11 saves to earn the victory in net.

Canisius returns to Atlantic Hockey play on Tuesday, squaring off with Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara. Game time in Lewiston is set for 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes: The Griffs allowed a 5-on-4 power-play goal for the first time since Oct. 20 ... Canisius has surrendered the first goal in 7-of-8 games this season ... The Griffs are 0-5-1 on the year when they fail to score a power-play goal.
