Bowling Green, Ohio - The Canisius College hockey team lost to Bowling Green in non-conference action on Friday night, 4-1. The Griffs drop to 2-4-1 on the season, while the CCHA's Falcons improve to 5-5-1.
"Bowling Green outplayed us in all areas of the game tonight," said Canisius head coach Dave Smith. "We weren't able to change our game enough to play more in their end and get pucks to the net. They were very physical and they came at us hard, which gave us a lot of trouble tonight."
Junior Torrey Lindsay scored the Griffs' lone goal of the contest, while senior Dan Morrison finished with 28 saves on the night.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons took control of the contest with three goals in the second frame. Cameron Sinclair opened the scoring 4:07 into the period, scoring off a rebound that rang off the post.
Bowling Green then added two goals nearly two minutes apart. With a two-man advantage, Bryce Williamson knocked home the puck from open on the back door with 6:47 remaining in the second. Camden Wojtala then scored on a rush with 4:41 left in the period for a 3-0 Bowling Green advantage after two.
Lindsay got the Griffs on the scoreboard with 10:20 remaining in regulation. Freshman Braeden Rigney chipped the puck out of the Canisius zone and to Lindsay. The junior then skated in and fired a shot, which found the back of the net to bring Canisius within two, 3-1.
The Falcons, however, sealed the victory with 48 ticks left when Ryan Carpenter scored with the empty net.
Bowling Green held a 32-8 advantage in shots on the evening. The Falcons were 1-for-6 on the power play, while killing all three Canisius extra-man chances. Andrew Hammond finished with seven saves for Bowling Green to earn the victory.
The teams wrap up the two-game series tomorrow afternoon with the contest slated to start at 4:05 p.m.
Game Notes: The teams were meeting for the first time ... The assist for Rigney was the first point of his collegiate career ... Although Canisius had its streak of 21-straight power-plays killed, the Griffs have not allowed a 5-on-4 power play tally in their last four games ... The eight shots on goal for Canisius are a program low, one fewer than the nine that the Griffs registered against Quinnipiac earlier in the season.
