The Canisius College cross country teams are set to host the
Little Three Championships Saturday at Delaware Park in Buffalo.
Canisius has found great success in recent years, as the men's
team has come in first eight of the last 12 years while the women's team has
won 10 of the last 12 Little Three Titles.
"Competing at home at Deleware Park gives our students and
administrators an opportunity to see what we do," said Canisius head coach Pete
Osmond. "We hope to see a lot of familiar faces out there to support our
teams."
The Golden Griffins have turned youth into a strong suit
for both their teams as freshmen from each side have had impressive showings
early in the season. Freshman Nate McCabe has placed first for the men in both
the Duquesne Duals and the National Catholic Championships with times of 26:51
and 26:29. For the women it's been freshmen Mikelle Cala and Jaime Wallace that
have gotten off to impressive starts. Cala came in 16th in a field
of 93 with a time of 19:04 in the Duquesne Duals and placed 37th at
National Catholic Championships in a field over 200 crossing the finish line at
18:49. Wallace placed 31st at the Duquesne Duals with a time of
19:32 and was 103rd at Notre Dame with a time of 19:59.
The meet, which will also feature teams from Niagara and St. Bonaventure, will take place at the Delaware Park Golf Course. The start/finish line will be near the park parking lot that is accessible from Parkside Avenue. The men's race will get underway at 2:30 p.m., with the women's event starting at 3:15 p.m.
