The Canisius College hockey team recently recognized its
2009-10 award winners at the program's annual postseason banquet.
Junior Cory Conacher was named the Team MVP following a record-setting
campaign. The Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year, Conacher recorded 53 points,
20 goals, 33 assists, seven power-play tallies and five game-winning scores.
His 53 points, 33 assists and five game-winning goals are all school-record
totals, while his 20 goals rank third in the program's history.
Conacher finished the season ranked second in the country
with 1.51 points per game and was the only player to rank in the top 15
nationally in both goals and assists per game. Conacher was also presented the
Top Forward Award, the Three Stars of the Night Award, and the Top Scorer
Award.
Senior Carl Hudson earned Top Defenseman accolades for the
second-consecutive season. Hudson, who was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey
Second Team, set school records for points (34), goals (14) and assists (20) by
a defensemen. He also netted 11 power play goals, the most by any player in the
program's Division I history. The senior finished the season ranked first
nationally among blueliners with 0.40 goals per game and third with 0.97 points
per game, in addition to sixth overall with his 11 power-play tallies.
Preston Shupe was named the Rookie of the Year. In his first
season with the Golden Griffins, Shupe recorded 25 points, 10 goals and 15
assists. The freshman ranked sixth in Atlantic Hockey and 21st nationally among
rookies with 0.68 points per game.
Sophomore Scott Moser earned the Most Improved Award. Moser played in all 37
games this season, recording 20 points on four goals and 16 assists. During his
rookie campaign, Moser tallied eight points on three goals and five assists.
Senior Josh Heidinger was honored with the Top Chapman Memorial Award as the
team's unsung hero. Heidinger set career highs with 39 points, 11 goals and 28
assists this season. The senior graduates from Canisius with school-record
totals of 132 points and 95 assists to go along with 37 goals.
Senior Dave Cianfrini received the Dr. David B. Dietz Award for the second-straight
season, which is presented to a player for his dedication in both athletics and
academics. The senior defender set career highs with 15 points, seven goals and
four power-play tallies this season.
Senior captain Peter
MacDougall was recognized with a pair of community
service awards, including one for his work with Hasek's Heroes. MacDougall won
the team's Community Outreach Award in each of his four seasons at Canisius.
The Griffs also honored their eight seniors - Cianfrini,
Heidinger, Hudson, MacDougall, Vincent
Amigone, Ryan Klusendorf, Andrew Loewen and Jason Weeks - for their dedication to the Canisius program the past
four seasons.
