Official Statement on Frank Turner's Ejection

This is the statement from official John Hughes on the flagrant foul that led to Canisius guard Frank Turner's ejection in the Golden Griffins' loss to Fairfield Saturday night.

"As Turner makes the layup, his momentum carries him out of bounds. As he turns to play defense ... as he's running back, he hits him [Fairfield's Derek Needham] in the testicles. It was not an unintentional act."

When asked to clarify if "unintentional" meant "on purpose," Hughes replied, "Absolutely."

Brad Tracy, MAAC Superervisor of Men's Basketball Officials, also noted that once the officials checked the monitor, by rule they had to call either a flagrant foul or no foul. A "common foul" cannot be called once replay is used.

Ejection is automatic in the event of a flagrant foul, Tracy said.
