Junior Cory Conacher of the Canisius College hockey team earned Atlantic
Hockey Player of the Year honors, as voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Conacher is the first player in the program's history to earn Player of the
Year accolades.
Conacher was also named to the All-Atlantic Hockey First
Team, while senior defender Carl Hudson earned second-team honors and junior forward Vincent Scarsella was named to the third team. The Griffs' three selections to the all-conference
team are the most in the program's history.
Conacher, who was also presented the regular-season scoring
trophy, led Canisius with 53 points, 20 goals and 33 assists during his junior
campaign. His 53 points and 33 assists are both the highest marks in the
program's Division I history, while his 20 goals rank third in the school's
record book.
The Burlington, Ontario native currently ranks among the
nation's elite in several categories. Conacher places second in the country
with 1.56 points per game, 13th with 0.59 goals per game and fifth with 0.97
assists per game. He is the only player in the country to rank in the top 15 in
points, goals and assists per game. Conacher also ranks sixth nationally with
five game-winning goals and 30th with seven power-play tallies.
During league play, Conacher recorded 44 points, the
second-most in Atlantic Hockey history. He netted 17 goals and added 27 assists
to lead the Canisius attack during league play and has helped Canisius earn its
first trip to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals since 2004. Conacher is the first
Griff to earn first-team all-conference honors since the 2004-05 season and the
first forward to accomplish the feat.
Hudson earned second-team honors after being named to the
third team last season. The senior totaled 34 points, 14 goals and 20 assists
this season, all school records for a Canisius defender. He currently ranks
second in the country among defenders with 1.00 point per game and with 0.41
goals per game. Hudson also ranks sixth among all players in the country with
11 power-play goals this season.
During his career, Hudson has totaled 90 points, 44 goals
and 46 assists, all school records among defenders. He also holds the Atlantic
Hockey record among defenders with his 44 career goals. In addition, Hudson
owns the program's records with 31 career power-play goals and nine career
game-winning scores.
Scarsella enjoyed a career season as a junior, setting
career highs with 41 points, 11 goals and 30 assists. He is just the third
player in the program's Division I history to record 40 points in a single-season, while his 30 helpers
rank second in the program's Division I record book. Scarsella currently ranks
fourth in the conference with his 41 points and third with his 30 assists.
During his career, Scarsella has totaled 98 points on 26
goals and 72 assists. He is two points shy of becoming the seventh player in
the school's Division I history to record 100 career points and he currently
ranks second with his 72 career helpers.
Conacher, Hudson, Scarsella and the Griffs return to the ice
on Friday, playing against top-seeded RIT in the Atlantic Hockey semifinals.
