POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Canisius junior Elton Frazier posted
his second career double-double after he scored a career-high 25 points to go
with 10 rebounds, and Frank Turner added 22 points and eight boards as the
Golden Griffins defeated Marist 72-57 Saturday night in the McCann Center.
Canisius has now won two straight to improve to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in MAAC
play, while the Red Foxes slipped to 1-14, 1-4 in conference action.
Frazier's 25 points came on the power of a 9-for-11 night
from the field, 1-for-2 from 3-point land and a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the
free-throw line. He scored 19 of his 25 in the first half and pulled six of his
10 boards off the offensive glass. Turner went 7-for-10 from the field, 2-for-3
from behind the arc and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe as the Griffs ended the
night shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 78.3 from the free-throw line.

junior Julius Coles came off the bench to score six points after missing Monday's
game due to illness. Marist's Devin Price had 15 points in the loss for Marist,
which has now dropped three-straight to Canisius.
"It's always good to win a conference game on the road, and
I think a lot it had to do with the right mindset from the start," Canisius
head coach Tom Parrotta said. "We came out and approached this game like a
veteran team with maturity and an understanding of what we needed to do to be
successful. We focused on playing sound defense and rebounding the ball, and
the tone we set in the first half pretty much carried us through the rest of
the game."
Marist took an early 4-0 lead before Frazier scored a jumper
in the lane and knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner with 17:42 to give the
Blue and Gold a 5-4 lead, an advantage the team would not give up for the rest
of the contest. The Griffs held a 12-9 lead with 14:54 left in the half, but
pulled away with a 14-4 run over a span of 6:23, capped by seven-straight
points from the free-throw line.
Canisius took a 40-23 lead into the locker room at the after
the team shot 52 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the charity
stripe, while forcing Marist to turn the ball over seven times in the game's
first 20 minutes. Frazier and Turner combined to score 31 of the team's 40 first
half points, with Logins and freshman Alshwan Hymes adding three points apiece
in the first half.
The Griffs led by as many as 20 in the second half before
the Red Foxes made a run to cut Canisius' cushion to 10 at 60-50 with 6:58 left
in the game. Logins put the Blue and Gold back up 63-50 with a 3-pointer from
the right wing and Frazier drained two free-throws with 4:36 left on the clock
to give the Griffs a 65-50 lead.
Canisius will return to action Monday, Jan. 11, when the
team plays at Siena in the Times Union Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and
the game can be seen live on Time Warner SportsNet.
